I like RyJo, but props to JD and Jarmo for not letting this agent play them. He's had several clients hold-out in the past. He had one good (not great) year. The cupboard is not bare with talent. More and more I'm starting to think RyJo might not be a great fit for this club in the long run. I wouldn't even offer him the long term deal at this point. Two years under 5 per at the max would be my offer. If he doesn't take it, let him sit. |

Its a tough spot Jacket Fans, its hard to defend the player with the office stuff/demands even t hough you are a big fan of what they do for the team.
Avs fans can relate. The longer it drags out the more tiresome it becomes and you just want the guy to go away/traded/signed long term whatever just so that the trade proposals and debate about is he worth the money amongst fans to end |

Jarmo has them right where he wants them, I think RJ is starting to miss getting paychecks. |

Jackets are doing the right thing here, he needs to prove he can keep up that level of play for more than a season before he gets the big contract.
A $4.5 first year $5.5 second year bridge contract seems about right to me. Probably more a little more than he should get right now, but nowhere near the crazy contract his agent is demanding.
If he pulls a Subban and proves it over the next two years and the Jackets don't want to show him the money it'll be a different story.
Might hurt the Jackets in the short term a little. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Jackets are kind of used to getting off to a slow start that this point right? |

Of course I do it, but no way is CBJ trading RJ for a 31 year old center on the decline with only 2 years left on his deal. And no that 1st does not do much to make up that gap. |

What would make it up you think?? An nhl ready prospect??
I think they would need a top 6 center to cover the lost of Johanssen. |

Only way I see CBJ moving him is if they can get a top end player that is young that they can build around. They sooner could use Eberle IMO. Then again I don't know that this would the guy they'd want either. |

They might have that in Jenner, who is a natural centre
I'd like
Philly: Eberle
CBJ: Couturier
Edm: Johansen

The Jackets are being smart with this. The kid has zero leverage...he'll cave eventually. And it won't hurt their chances of signing him long-term, just like it didn't hurt Montreal's chances with PK.

I agree.
But i think the situation is comparable as the Kane's one with Win. Maybe even worst, near future will tell. And i still don't know if Johanssen is better than Kane, considering he just have 1 good year (whcih is why Clb fans think he is too greedy).
That being said if really they don't want to sign him for that money or terms, i don't think they would have full value for him. |

Or this.
I hope he caves.
I hope Mtl won't have the same problem with Galchenyuk if he has that kind of year. |

Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if Jarmo is gambling on Wennberg to come in and fill that spot. |

If this agent got what he wants, he will pretty much set a standard to change the economy of the entire game: Teravinen now is worth six; Mckinnon is worth seven; Krug is now worth 6.5....on and on .
Sadly, The agent who is acting on 'Ryan's best interest', is certainly paid a percentage of the offer landed, so basically it's no mystery whose interest he is looking out for. His own. God bless capitalism. |
